About us

Like Umverteilen!′s other working groups, the Latin America working group was founded in 1987. Throughout its more than twenty-year history, the group has been relatively stable, with little fluctuation of members. Three women and five men currently belong to the working group. Some of them were active in the Solidarity Committees of the 1980s and are still committed to working — some of them professionally — for democracy, human rights and emancipation in Latin American countries. The working group has established close contacts with people in the countries and regions in question by means of stays and travel abroad as well as activities in Berlin. These contacts facilitate assessment of the current situation in a given place.

The Latin America working group considers itself first and foremost a body of politically dedicated volunteers who decide on the allocation of Umverteilen! funds to self-help projects and political initiatives.
